The Choir performed their Summer Concert on
25th May 2018 to a packed house in
Craigiebuckler Church, with our special
guest, Tony Moffat.
Hailing from Hexham Northumberland, Anthony
Moffat was trained at the Royal Academy of
Music, London by Armenian Soloist and
Orchestra Leader, Manoug Parikian. On
graduating in 1987 he gained the highest
accolade for violin by winning the Marjorie
His passion for chamber music was encouraged
and nurtured over several years by the
members of the Amadeus Quartet but it is as
devotee of Piano Trio that he is best known.
He has given trio recitals in the Wigmore
Hall and Purcell Room in London. As
violinist of the Da Vinci Piano Trio he has
toured across Europe and has broadcast on
BBC Radio 3.
His career as Orchestra Leader began as
Co-leader of the Halle Orchestra prior to
accepting his current post as Leader of the
Orchestra of Scottish Opera in 2000. He has
appeared as Guest Leader with BBC Concert
Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra,
Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Royal
Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, City of
Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Bergen
Philharmonic Orchestra and the National
Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
He has also been invited to lead the BBC
Symphony Orchestra in London.
He plays on a fine violin by Giovanni
Grancino of Milan made in 1695.
